'Rarest of Collectibles' temporary exhibition launches in Egypt’s Royal Chariots Museum

CAIRO – 24 January 2022: Under the title "Rarest of Collectibles", the Royal Chariots Museum in Bulaq inaugurated a temporary exhibition of the rare possessions of the Alawite family.

Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities Moamen Othman said that the exhibition runs for a month and includes a collection of the rarest belongings of the Alawite family. It also contains various items that have not been shown before in the museum, including royal chariots, gifts, hats and saddlery.

Director General of the Museum Ahmed el-Sabbagh explained that one of the most prominent artifacts on display is a small cart for education, a gift from Hungary from the era of King Fouad I. The cart was used for young princes and princessed and carried two small lanterns and a short bamboo carabiner with a copper motif.

The exhibits also comrpise the bronze bust of Khedive Ismail; a chariot model made of metal inlaid with enamel, showing drawings of women, angels and landscapes; a pair of stirrups of gilded copper; and a cashmere shawl made of wool on silk.

 

 

 

 


This is in addition to a group of hats, a wooden shoe mold made of three pieces of beech wood, a small porcelain horse figurine, a copper and leather ashtray in the shape of a horseshoe, and a silver desk leaf ending with a winged fairy animal.
