CAIRO – 14 December 2021: The ancient Egyptians came up with inventions thousands of years ago that are still used by humanity today. These inventions even included games and home locks.

Pin Locks

It's hard to think of a time when door locks didn't exist, but they simply weren't something known before ancient Egyptian times.

In 4000 BC, the pin lock, which is very similar to the modern lock, was created for the first time by the ancient Egyptians. This lock consists of a hollow bolt containing pins that can be removed by inserting a key, by pushing the key these pins off the bolt shaft.

However, due to the lack of refinement, the locks at this time were much larger than modern locks. These ancient Egyptian locks were over half a meter in size, heavy and somewhat cumbersome to carry.

Bowling

Although bowling is not as useful as many of the other ancient Egyptian inventions, it is still interesting to know that the still popular game was invented by the ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago.

Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a chamber containing a set of passages about 4 meters long. Along with the corridor where a bunch of balls of different sizes were discovered.

This chamber, located in Narmótheos (about 90 kilometers outside of Cairo), was thought to be evidence of early bowling games.
