The 43rd edition of Cairo International Film Festival organized a panel for head of the festival international competition and acclaimed Serbian director and actor Emir Kusturica.

Kusturica said that in general nothing in this life attracts him.

The acclaimed director said that he was asked when he could do a movie about Beckham, and he replied that  he is a very good player but he destroyed his life.

“I have compassion for people who are on the margin and the bottom line, who are trying to survive and their relationship to society” Kusturica said.

He added that the movie is the sphere of fiction you have to create.

“If you use music to determine the tempo of your movie then you are in trouble” Kusturica recounted.

Emir Kusturica: Cinema is music.

Emir Kusturica: Cinema is much closer to music than literature, drama and theater.

Emir Kusturica: Today you have movies that you can not count but they aren’t better than movies of the past.

Emir Kusturica: Movies nowadays don’t recognize that goes on pertaining to the negative and the positive aspects of the characters.

Emir Kusturica: I don’t think I am a good actor in cinema, I am a better actor in life.

Emir Kusturica: To be a good director you have to have natural autonomy.

Emir Kusturica: To be a good director you have to be the first wolf on the tribe of wolves.

Emir Kusturica: The purpose of my work is to make me well balanced at the end.

Emir Kusturica: I was reading quite a lot, I was reading more than watching movies.

Emir Kusturica: By reading books you create your own sequence and your own movie.
