CAIRO – 21 November 2021: Al-Sennari Archaeological House, in cooperation with the Cairo Biography Initiative, is holding a free symposium under the title “The History of Coins - Studying Egyptian Coins as an Archaeological Source.”, on November 22 at 7 p.m.

The symposium focuses on the importance of studying Egyptian coins as a direct archaeological source to learn the economic, cultural, architectural and artistic history of Egypt from the 30th Dynasty until the Arab conquest of Egypt, and the beginning of the Umayyad era.

The symposium also reviews currencies since the dynastic era, the history of striking the first Egyptian coins, the history of minting money in Egypt under the rule of the Achaemenids and the Ptolemies, in addition to the Egyptian and foreign artistic influences that appeared on the Egyptian currency, and how the Egyptian currency was used as a promotional tool. An explicit example of this is the coinage of the Ptolemaic-Roman period.
