GFF, UNICEF Egypt’s event celebrates effect of cinema on most disenfranchised citizens

As part of El Gouna Film Festival partnership with UNICEF Egypt, UNICEF Ambassador Mona Zaki led the way at a special Sunset networking event that celebrates the power of cinema and art as an affective and impactful gateway to shine a light on the country's most disenfranchised citizens, not least its young women.

 

 

Zaki was joined by photographer Ahmed Hayman whose own work with UNICEF has seen him produce a photography book documenting the lives of three young women - Alaa Tharwat, Samaa Marghany and Noura Rashid - whose lives have been changed by the simple notion of providing opportunities to the country’s youth.

At the third edition of GFF in 2019, the festival signed a memorandum of understanding with UNICEF.Egypt as the first step of a proposed five-year partnership built on our mutual appreciation of the power of cinema.
 
This partnership aims to advocate for the rights of disadvantaged children across Egypt and the region, feeding into our core value: ‘Cinema for Humanity’.
 
UNICEF Sunset Networking Event saw a whole host of guests from the filmmaking industry and key figures working in development to throw their backing behind an impactful initiative, to celebrate a union that has the potential to make a change.
 

 

 

There’s still much work to be done, though, this partnership is only the start of the journey.
