CAIRO – 2 September 2021: Egypt’s Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem and all its affiliated sectors and entities mourned the death of Egypt’s veteran actor Maher Selim.

 

 

 

Selim passed away in the early hours of September 2.

 

 

 

The late actor Maher Ali Ahmed Selim obtained a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts, Department of Acting and Directing, and a Postgraduate Diploma at the Egyptian Academy of Dramatic Arts in Directing.

 

 

 

Selim participated in about 20 plays, including “Zinzanat el-Maganen” [Crazy Dungeon], “Cairo 80”, among others.

 

 

 

He held several administrative positions, including Director General of Al-Talea Theater in 2012, Head of the Theater Art House in 2013, Adviser to the Head of the Cultural Production Sector in 2014, Director of the National Theater Festival in Cairo in March 2013, and a member of the Supreme Committee for International and Local Festivals at the Supreme Council of Culture.

 

 

 

Selim also participated in a number of works with international director Youssef Chahine, and his latest work is the movie ‘Wakfet Regala” [A Men's Stand].
