Wekalat Al-Gedawi in Esna after its restoration - Min. of Tourism & Antiquities
CAIRO – 29 August 2021: On August 29, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism & Antiquities Khaled el-Enani inaugurated Wekalat Al-Gedawi in the city of Esna, after completing its restoration and development, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Enani expressed his happiness with the opening of Wekalat Al-Gedawi after the completion of its restoration and development, which took nearly 2 years of hard work, describing the agency as wonderful.
Enani further stated that the restoration process brought the agency back to its former charm, shining once again and embodying the role played by the ministry to preserve Egypt's archaeological and cultural heritage. This is in addition to enhancing the tourism potential of Esna by reviving new tourist attractions.
Moreover, Enani praised the fruitful cooperation with the United States of America in the field of tourism and antiquities, stressing that it is one of the main partners of the ministry, as many American archaeological missions are working in Egypt in the field of archaeological excavation and restoration, in addition to the prominent role played Chicago House Institute in Luxor and the American Research Institute in Cairo.
Enani explained that it is not the first time the USAID has participated with the ministry in restoration and development projects in various Egyptian archaeological sites as it had previously carried out such projects in Luxor, Aswan, Karnak, Giza, Historic Cairo and Alexandria.
During the opening, Enani announced that visitors to the agency would be received free of charge using only the entrance ticket to the Esna Temple, in order to stimulate the tourism movement in the city.
