Important world events:

 

 

1940 - Italian forces capture British Somaliland during World War II.

 

 

 

1953 - The Iranian army, with the support and assistance of the United States, overthrows the government of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh and reinstates Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as the Shah of Iran.

 

 

 

1973 - France detonates its third atomic bomb, seven hundred and fifty kilometers from the island of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean.
