636 - Muslims led by Khalid ibn al-Walid defeat the Romans in the Battle of Yarmouk.

 

 

1809 - The national leader Omar Makram is exiled to Damietta by a decision of Mohammad Ali Pasha, despite the role that Makram played in Mohammad Ali's arrival to rule Egypt in 1805.

 

 

1888 - Berta Benz, wife of German inventor Karl Benz, becomes the first person to tour a steam engine car in history.
