CAIRO – 4 August 2021: The Rasheed National Museum is organizing a series of training workshops during August, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and under the supervision of the Museums Sector of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

The workshops aim to activate the museum’s role in communicating with society, spreading archaeological awareness, and developing the skills and capabilities of students and graduates of the faculties of tourism, archeology, tourism guidance, history and restoration.

The workshop’s program includes a workshop entitled "Tour guide skills, Tasks & Challenges", organized by the Rasheed National Museum online through the Microsoft teams program, from August 5 to August 7.

The program also includes a workshop entitled "A Tour of Museum Science and Archeology", organized by the Rasheed National Museum and will be held from August 15, 16 in cooperation with the Community Communication Sector at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina [Zahi Hawass Egyptology Center].

It is worth noting that the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser inaugurated the Rasheed Museum as a military museum on September 19, 1959, during his visit to Rasheed City.

It was opened again in 1985, after being developed and provided with exhibits that reflect the history of the city of Rasheed, and the addition of a museum garden for open display.

The Rasheed Museum is located on the West Bank at the mouth of the Nile in the Mediterranean, 65 km northeast of Alexandria, in Al-Buhayrah Governorate, the governorate that boasts glorious national history and the Open Museum of Islamic Architecture.

Rasheed includes a distinguished group of houses and mosques dating back to the Ottoman era during the 18th and 19th centuries, and the famous Qaitbay Castle in which the Rosetta Stone was found, which is the second largest city that houses Islamic antiquities after Cairo.

The museum's holdings are displayed in one of the most famous and largest houses of Rashid, the house of Arab Keli, who was the governor of the city, and was built in the 18th century. The house consists of four floors that highlight the characteristics of Islamic architecture and arts in this period.

The museum includes collectibles and models that highlight the struggle of the people of Rasheed and the battles they fought against the French and English colonialists. It includes pictures of battles, family life, handicraft and folk industries, manuscripts and tools for daily life, in addition to a copy of the Rosetta Stone uncovered at Rasheed in 1799 and a collection of weapons from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The museum also displays some of the Islamic antiquities that were recently discovered in Rashid as Islamic coins and pottery.
