Egypt’s Alexandria celebrates its multicultural past on July 7

CAIRO – 5 July 2021: The Alexandria and Mediterranean Studies Center in the Academic Research Sector of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a celebration entitled “The Cosmopolitanism of Alexandria” on July 7, 2021.

 

 

 

During the event, the film "A Nation by Choice", produced by the European Program of the International Relations of the National Media Authority and the European Union, will screen. The film focuses on the youth of the foreign communities of “Cosmopolitan Alexandria,who chose to stay in Alexandria.

 

 

 

Following the film screening, speeches are set to be given by a number of senior officials commenting on the topic at hand. Also, some existing partnership projects with foreign countries, as well as future plans aimed at sustaining dialogue and cooperation, will be discussed.

 

 

 

The celebration is an affirmation of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's role as the gateway of the world to Egypt and Egypt's gateway to the world, as well as being a beacon to uphold the values of tolerance, understanding and dialogue among peoples of the world.

 

 

 

Furthermore, the celebration comes within the framework of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's efforts and its relentless endeavor to revive the dialogue of civilizations, especially between the countries of the Mediterranean. It further highlights the characteristics of Alexandria as a focal point of all civilizations.
