CAIRO – 4 April 2021: As a part of the Egyptian Opera House’s plan to present the most famous and important international classic works, the Cairo Opera Ballet Ensemble will present the famous Don Quixote Operetta, directed by the late Abdel Moneim Kamel, accompanied by the Cairo Opera Orchestra.

This will be staged on four consecutive days from April 6-9.

The opera performance is based on the famous novel of the same name by Spanish writer Miguel Cervantes. It revolves around Don Quixote, the noble and eccentric knight who dreams of his beloved Dulcina, as he asks his servant Sancho to prepare for a long journey to search for her and prove his false heroism.

It is worth noting that the Cairo Opera Ballet Ensemble was founded in 1966. It was affiliated with the Higher Institute of Ballet and its members were trained by experts from the Soviet Union. They gave their first performances in the same year the ensemble was founded. They were influenced, in the beginnings, by Russian and classical ballet.

They later became one of the teams of the National Cultural Center (Cairo Opera House) in 1991. Since then, the Cairo Opera Ballet Ensemble presented many international ballets and has toured various countries of the world, including Mexico, France, England, Ireland, Korea, Austria, the United States of America, China, the Czech Republic, Italy, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Canada and Russia.
