Total investments in drinking water, sanitation sectors in Damietta record LE 816.5M in 2020

CAIRO – 7 February 2021: Total investments in the drinking water and sanitation sectors in Damietta Governorate amounted to LE 816.5 million during 2020, Head of the Damietta Drinking Water and Sanitation Company, Mohamed Badawy Assal, said Sunday.

 

He stressed in a statement, Sunday, that the continuous follow-up by the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, the Governor of Damietta, the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation, and the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation, to achieve the current vision of the state to support the infrastructure and improve services provided to citizens.

 

The infographic prepared by the company stated that in the drinking water sector, the development and rehabilitation of Damietta and Kafr Soliman water stations have been completed, at a cost of LE 159 million, and the replacement and renewal of drinking water networks for 31 projects worth LE 30 million.

 

He pointed out that 8 projects have been implemented in the sanitation sector with a value of LE 419 million, including sanitation hoists (Al-Ghawabeen - Saif Al-Din - Al-Lawzi - Al-Atwi - Al-Kashef - Al-Sawahel - Azab Al-Nahda - expansion of the Ras Al-Bar station), in addition to sanitation projects with community participation. Providing sanitation services to deprived villages, as it included the implementation of networks, lifting stations and eviction lines in two stations (Rafe Abdel Qader 2 - a sewage station in Tabl), at a total cost of LE 50 million.

 

He pointed out that five projects to replace and renew sanitation networks have been completed, at a value of LE 18 million.

 

With regard to efforts to combat rain, the company’s Chairman said that rainwater drainage networks have been established in the governorate’s centers, and 850 cesspools to drain rain water. The mechanical campaign for the company's water and sewage sectors has also been strengthened with more than 35 equipment, sweeping vehicles and pumps of different capacities.
