CAIRO – 30 January 2021:  Chairman of New and Renewable Energy Authority Mohamed el-Khayyat announced that five power stations to generate solar energy are being established in Suez Gulf area, and Kom Ombo in Aswan.

The capacity of the five stations amount to 1,000 megawatts; 500 megawatts in each area. The total cost of the stations reaches $1.5 billion.

Khayyat said that solar panels will be installed by the end of this year, as part of a project to construct power plants of 500 megawatts in capacity.

He further noted that works of installing wind farms of 500 megawatts in capacity will begin next year.

Khayyat ensured that a decision to reduce the price of a kilowatt/hour of renewable energy has contributed to attracting foreign and local investments into the field.
