Egypt directs LE 4.1B public investments to Minya Governorate during 2020/21

CAIRO – 24 January 2021: Egypt directs public investments of LE 4.1 billion to Minya Governorate in the 2021/2021 plan,marking  an annual increase of 10.8 percent, according to Minister of Planning Hala el-Saeed.

 

Saeed noted that these investments represent 1.6 percent of distributed public investment.

 

This came in the “Citizen Investment Plan” in Minya Governorate for the fiscal year 20/2021, as part of the continuation of announcing the citizen’s plan in all governorates of Egypt for the second year in a row, intending to activate community participation and involve citizens in planning and follow-up.

 

She noted that the number of development projects in Minya governorate reached 327 projects.

 

About the sectorial distribution of public investments targeted in the Minya governorate in the 2021/2021 plan, El-Said pointed to directing investments worth LE 1.4 billion to the housing sector and slum development at a rate of 34%.

 

“The local development sector is allocated investments worth LE 604.7 million, or 14.7 percent., while the transport sector is allocated LE 547.4 million or 13.4 percent,” Saeed explained.

 

The higher education sector will receive EGP 455 million, at a rate of 11.1 percent, while the pre-university sector will receive LE 312.4 million, at a rate of 7.6 percent, in addition to directing LE 570.5 million to other sectors, by 19.2 percent.

 

The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development stated that the most important development targets in the housing sector and the development of informal settlements in Minya Governorate in the 2021/20 Plan are to direct about LE 858.2 million to drinking water and sanitation services, in addition to directing LE 117.5 million to social housing projects.

 

It indicated that in the pre-university education sector, the most important development goals are to establish 105 schools with a total of 1,490 classrooms, pointing to the local development programs in the governorate represented in the program of extending and strengthening electricity networks and lighting equipment.

 

The report referred to the features of the “Decent Life” Initiative in Minya Governorate, where the volume of the initiative’s investments in the governorate amounted to EGP 734 million, and the number of beneficiary villages is 25 villages, the number of beneficiaries reached 310,000 citizens, and the most important sectors benefiting from the initiative are sanitation, transportation, irrigation (filtering canals).
