CAIRO – 16 December 2020: The high-level working group of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum held its eighth meeting via video conference technology, to discuss a number of organizational matters to activate the activities of the forum.

The meeting discussed the headquarter agreement to be concluded between Egypt and the Forum in accordance with its establishment agreement.

It also discussed the procedures for joining new members and observers of the forum in light of the interest of many countries to join the forum as members or observers, believing in the importance of the forum as it is the first regional governmental organization for cooperation in the field of gas in the eastern Mediterranean region.

This meeting is the first to be held after the final signing of the forum's charter by the seven founding countries on September 22, 2020 and ratification by the Egyptian parliament.

The meeting reviewed the forum's roadmap during 2021, which included the work plan of the gas industry advisory committee and the detailed plans of its three technical, economic and organizational subcommittees.

Moreover, the meeting approved the requests for two additional members to join the Gas Industry Advisory Committee, bringing its members to 29 from the most important companies and institutions involved in the gas industry in the region, compared to 16 members when it was launched in November 2019. This shows the extent of the development the forum is witnessing and the relevance of Egypt's vision in calling for it as an effective organization to achieve energy cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
