ECS conducts study on increasing food industry exports to various countries

CAIRO - 10 December 2020: The Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) has finalized a study on the growth opportunities of the country’s food processing exports to various countries, ESC Head Ahmed Ghamrawy said on Thursday.

Speaking at a seminar organized by the Food Export Council (FEC) in cooperation with the ECS on growth opportunities of the Egyptian food industry exports to Spain, Ghamrawy said the study is depending on information provided by the commercial representation offices abroad, and analyzing various markets by a working group formed at the ECS so that the results would be put into effect.
 

Food processing is a promising sector on which the Trade and Industry Ministry depends on to increase exports in the coming stage, he asserted.
 

Meanwhile, FEC Chairman Hani Berzi said, a study is also being conducted in cooperation with the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES) on the growth opportunities of the Egyptian food exports in the coming stage.
 

The food sector represented 14 percent of the total Egyptian non-petroleum exports in 2019, and achieved 10 percent growth, registering $3.5 billion, he said.
 

He added that the food industry exports increased 2 percent in the first nine months of 2020, despite the coronavirus impacts, noting that the EU countries received about 14 percent of the total sector’s exports with dlrs 366 million recorded from January to September, 2020.
