CAIRO – 25 October 2020: Telecom Egypt is building the largest international data centre facility in Egypt.

The center is expected to be commissioned by the beginning of 2021, with access to all the global submarine cable systems that land in Egypt.

The company clarified Sunday in a filing to the Egyptian exchange (EGX) that the new data centre is going to be the first in Egypt with the Uptime Institute’s certifications in the design, constructed facility, and operational sustainability categories.

The facility has also received the Tier III certification of design from the Uptime Institute a few months ago.

Despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19), the construction of the facility has not been affected.

The new data centre will have a capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 racks over four modular facilities campus and will be connected to all the 10 Mediterranean and Red Sea subsea landing stations, which would give access to above 60 countries.

The company commented that this project demonstrates its clear focus and commitment to transform Egypt into a global digital hub. “this project coincides with the country’s efforts to expedite the development of Egypt’s ICT infrastructure and digital services as well as contribute to the regional digital transformation.

Telecom Egypt has six commercial data centre facilities in Greater Cairo and Alexandria.
