EGX ends week in green, market cap. gains LE4.5B

CAIRO – 19 August 2020: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended last trading session of the week in green, adding LE 4.5 billion to market capitalization, amid Egyptian purchases.

 

EGX will be off on Thursday, August 20, on the occasion of Islamic New Year. Islamic Date is also called Hijri Date in Muslim world that follows Moon phases as lunar calendar.

 

The benchmark EGX30 rose 0.75 percent, or 82.94 points, to close at 11,160.05 points.

 

The equally weighted index EGX 50 hiked 1.16 percent, or 22.50 points, to end at 1,966.03 points.

 

The small and mid-cap index EGX 70 climbed 2.08 percent, or 34.48 points, to close at 1,692.88 points, and the broader index EGX 100 1.66 percent, or 41.88 points to 2,571.86 points. 

 

Market capitalization gained around LE 4.5 billion, recording LE 616.55 billion, compared to LE 612 billion in Tuesday’s session.

 

The trading volume reached 526.44 million shares, traded through 40,500 transactions, with a turnover of LE 1.39 billion. 

 

Egyptian investors were net buyers at LE 40.78 million, while Arab and foreign investors were net sellers at LE 2.87 million and LE 37.9 million, respectively. 

 

Egyptian, Arab and foreign individuals were net buyers at LE 1.48 million, LE 7.88 million, and LE 1.43 million, respectively.

 

Egyptian organizations bought at LE 39.29 million, while Arab and foreign sold at LE 10.76 million, and LE 39.33 million, respectively. 

 

Alexandria New Medical Center, Egyptian Arabian (cmar) Securities Brokerage EAC, and B Investments Holding were top gainers of the session at 9.99 percent, 9.98 percent and 9.89 percent, respectively. 

 

Meanwhile, Egyptian Iron & Steel, Mena Touristic & Real Estate Investment, and Oriental Weavers were top losers of the session by 8.41 percent, 3.65 percent, and 2.01 percent, respectively. 

 

EGX ended Tuesday in red as: EGX30 declined 0.59 percent, EGX50 decreased 0.54 percent, EGX 70 dropped 0.47 percent, and EGX 100 inched down 0.55 percent.
