CAIRO - 16 July 2020: Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla said that the natural gas reached more than five million housing units within six years.

This came during a meeting, via video conference, to follow up ongoing efforts exerted to implement two national projects; namely extending natural gas to houses and expanding natural gas use as car fuel, especially in light of the continuous directives of the political leadership to benefit from natural gas resources.

In a statement on Thursday, Molla said that the natural gas has been extended for first time to villages and cities in Upper Egypt and densely populated districts.

The meeting reviewed the government plan to accelerate extension of natural gas to houses to replace butane gas within 3 years instead of 4.

The meeting tackled the government directives to expand the project of using pre-paid natural gas meters within the framework of developing payment mechanism.

The talks also tacked means of expanding natural gas stations to meet growing demand for using natural gas as fuel.

Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS) Magdi Galal participated in the meeting.
