EGX ends last session before Eid Al-fitr on mixed note

CAIRO – 21 May 2020: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) entered Thursday’s session on a mixed note, losing LE 1.1 billion of market capitalization, amid foreign selling.

The benchmark EGX30 dipped 0.94 percent, or 95.49 points, to close at 10,109.91 points.

The equally weighted index EGX 50 declined 0.10 percent, or 1.45 points, to end at 1,491.03 points.

On the other hand, the small and mid-cap index EGX 70 increased 0.20 percent, or 2.3 points, to close at 1,131.06 points, and the broader index EGX 100 rose 0.13 percent, or 2.45 points to 1,829.51 points.

Market capitalization lost LE 1.1 billion, recording LE 542.63 billion, compared to LE 543.74 billion in Wednesday’s session.

The trading volume reached 205.67 million shares, traded through 30,959 transactions, with a turnover of LE 1.03 billion.

Foreign investors were sellers at LE 224.38 million, while Egyptian and Arab investors were net buyers at LE 226.4 million, and LE 17.98 million , respectively.

Egyptian, Arab and foreign individuals were net sellers at LE 122.76 million, LE 29.27 million and LE 4.79 million, respectively.

Egyptian organizations bought at LE 103.65 million, while Arab and foreign organizations bought at LE 11.29 million, and LE 249.17 million, respectively.

General Company For Land Reclamation,Development & Reconstruction, Gharbia Islamic Housing Development, and El Nasr for Manufacturing Agricultural Crops were top gainers of the session at 9.49 percent, 8.95 percent and 8.68 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Company for Construction Development-Lift Slab, ODIN Investments, and Emerald Real Estate Investment were top losers of the session by 8.24 percent, 6.25 percent, and 5.96 percent, respectively.

EGX ended Wednesday in red as: EGX30 dipped 1.47 percent, or 151.84 points, EGX 50 declined 1.30 percent, EGX 70 decreased 1.04 percent, and the broader index EGX 100 lessened 1.33 percent.

EGX and the Central Bank of Egypt announced Eid Al-Fitr holiday to be five days from Sunday, May 24, till Thursday, May 28.
