CAIRO - 15 January 2020: Israel has started pumping natural gas to Egypt in a step the petroleum minister believes would serve economic interests of both countries.

This would enable Israel to transfer some of its natural gas to Europe via factories in Egypt, said Tarek el Molla, noting that this reflects the country's growing role as a regional hub of natural gas.

The Petroleum Ministry, in a statement Wednesday, said it would make the announcement during an Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, set for Cairo on Thursday.

The petroleum ministers of Egypt, Cyprus, Israel, Greece, Italy, Jordan and Palestine are set to agree on establishing a regional gas organization during the summit.
