Bank’s deposits hit LE 3.879T by end of February

CAIRO – 21 May 2019: Total deposits at the banking system, excluding the Central Bank, rose by LE 41.7 billion, to reach LE 3.879 trillion by the end of February 2019, compared to LE 3.837 trillion by the end of January, according to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

CBE said that the total government deposits amounted to LE 631.1 billion, LE 509.7 billion of which were in the local currency and LE 121.4 billion were in foreign currencies. In January, total government deposits recorded LE 624.22 billion.

It pointed out that the total non-governmental deposits recorded LE 3.247 trillion, LE 2.492 trillion of which were in the local currency and LE 755.731 trillion were in foreign currencies, compared to LE 3.213 trillion in the previous month.

The public business sector contributed to February’s deposits by LE 2.57 trillion.

The total deposits recorded an increase of LE 60.6 billion during January and February.

CBE announced earlier that banks’ deposits marked an increase of LE 527 billion in fiscal year 2017/2018, recording about LE 3.569 trillion by the end of June 2018, compared to LE 3.042 trillion in June 2017.
