Egypt, Rwanda to cooperate in infrastructure projects

CAIRO - 12 January 2019: Rwandan Ambassador Saleh Habimana met with Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) Abdel Moneim al-Taras on Friday to discuss cooperation on the sidelines of a visit by 40 African ambassadors to the organization.

Taras told press that the Rwandan side has expressed interest to close deals with Egypt related to construction material, infrastructure, and raw material exchange.

The AOI will provide technical support for Rwandan projects in the sectors of renewable energy, infrastructure, water purification, wastewater, railcars, fire trucks, ambulances, and electronics.

Habimana was Rwanda’s former Grand Mufti, and is Rwanda’s first ever ambassador to Egypt. The decision was driven by the need to expand Egyptian - Rwandan relations.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed in Addis Ababa with his Rwandan counterpart Richard Sezibera files related to the institutional reform of the African Union.

That was on the sidelines of the preparatory meetings for the extraordinary AU summit that took place on November 14-18,

EgyptAir will launch two new routes in the African continent as of the end of January 2019. One is to the Rwandan capital Kigali, and the other is to Douala, Cameroon.

As part of an initiative to develop the Nile Basin countries, the AOI is executing three energy plants in Eritrea at a budget of $7 million while the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation is establishing a joint farm which is the seventh joint Egyptian-African farm.

Six others were built in Democratic Congo, Mali, Tanzania, Zambia, Niger and Togo to cultivate crops, and breed livestock.
