CAIRO - 18 July 2018: Trade and Industry Minister Amr Nassar is leading Egypt's delegation to the 20th summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) that began in the Zambian capital Lusaka on Wednesday.

The event will run for two days.

President Edgar Lungu of Zambia and President Hery Rajaonarimampianina of Madagascar attended the opening session.

In a statement, Nassar said Egypt's participation in the summit comes as part of its effective role within the COMESA as it seeks to activate the grouping's role in achieving African integration through removing hurdles blocking the movement of capital among member states and increasing joint investments.

There are vast opportunities for investment in the African continent, he said, urging rallying efforts to turn the continent into an influencing power both at regional and international levels.

The COMESA groups 15 member states with a population of more than 300 million and a Gross Domestic Product of 600 billion dollars.
