CAIRO – 27 December 2017: The Japan International Cooperation Agency's (JICA) Egypt office has completed 40 years of operations, providing 890.4 billion yen in total support to the Egyptian government to achieve growth and development.

JICA contributed an equivalent of $1.5 billion in loans for the construction of the fourth line Greater Cairo Underground Metro, in addition to 18.2 billion yen to build a new terminal at Borg Al Arab Airport.

The Japanese agency is also financing the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) near the Great Pyramids of Giza through a loan of around $800 million.

Earlier this month, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr signed, on the sidelines of the Egypt–Japan Business Council in Tokyo, 993 million yen to supply education and research devices for the Egypt–Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST).
