CAIRO – 11 December 2017: Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FECC) is working on a study on setting up a linking road between Egypt with Chad, head of FECC Ahmed al-Wakil said during his speech in Africa 2017 forum.

Wakil added the road will also link Egypt with locked land states in mid Africa, adding that this road and the new shipping lines will support the Suez Canal axis as a logistics center.

He pointed out that African leaders welcome cooperation with Egypt in different fields. They agreed on studying projects which have priorities and means of finance from banks at every country.

FECC will coordinate with concerned ministries in preparation for directing delegations to these countries, he added.

The fields of cooperation include logistics and transportation, in light of FECC’s plan to establish logistics in Africa, infrastructure, electricity (in partnership with the European Union, Japan and China).

The road between Egypt and Chad should cross four African countries, said Alaa Ezz, the secretary general of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, in statements to MENA.

The road is currently unpaved and prevents the exchange of commodities, and should help reduce the price of goods among the African countries through which it will pass, Ezz said, noting that Chad has welcomed the project.

The EU will provide a grant to bankroll feasibility studies of the project, Ezz said, expecting the study to be over by mid 2018.

Egypt also can offer to African Countries its experiences in education and healthcare.
During his speech in second day of Africa 2017 forum, president Sisi said Egypt is offering support to it African counterparts with the objective of achieving integration.

He also noted that Egypt is pursuing support for African initiatives from the African union and regional projects which aim to develop infrastructure and establishing linking roads such as setting up the route between Victoria Lake and the Mediterranean Sea and the Cairo to Cape Town road.
