K&A awarded consultancy works of 1st phase of new electric train

CAIRO – 29 August 2017: The National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) announced Tuesday that the Egyptian-Lebanese firm K&A Consultants will handle the LE 417 million ($23.6 million) consultancy works of the first phase of the electric train project, including the financial burdens.

The technical and financial proposals of K&A were accepted, NAT Planning Director Tarek Aboul Wafa told Egypt Today, adding that the company will supervise the implementation of the project’s first phase extending from Al-Salam City to the Robeeki city.

Wafa added that the implementation works of the project are supposed to begin in two months after activating the

$700 million

loan offered by Exim Bank of China. The signals and control works of the 20 air-conditioned train project will be carried out by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and will start working this week.

The cost of works to be done by Egyptian companies will be funded from the general budget, where the firms will get the equivalent of $461 million in Egyptian pounds. The project will be inaugurated in two years.

The new electric

train linking between Salam City and the New Administrative City will cost $1.25 billion and will save LE 2.3 billion ($129 million) annually, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) Tarek Gamal al-Din said on Tuesday.
