CAIRO – 29 August 2017: The Ministry of Petroleum targets starting production from British Petroleum’s (BP) Atoll Phase One project before the end of 2017; ahead of schedule.

The production is estimated to come at a rate of 300 million cubic feet of gas per day, an official from the Ministry, who requested to remain anonymous, told Egypt Today.

Announced in March 2015, Atoll Phase One project was expected to supply gas to the domestic gas market by the first half of 2018.

Located in the North Damietta Offshore concession in the Eastern Nile Delta, Atoll contains an estimated 1.5 trillion cubic feet of gas and 31 million barrels of condensates.
BP holds 100 percent interest in the concession.

Earlier this month, head of BP’s joint venture with the Egyptian government Pharaonic Petroleum Company, Hassan Abady, said that development works of Atoll is 70 percent complete.

Abady said that three wells had been drilled, adding that companies are about to finish installing power and automatic control lines for the field under the sea.
