Egypt, Jordan agree to set, activate joint action plan for food security

CAIRO- 24 July 2022: Egypt and Jordan have agreed to draft and activate a joint action plan in food security field to be activated within one month, announced the Jordanian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply in a statement on Sunday.

 

 

The new plan will be carried out in cooperation with the private sector, the statement said, adding that the two countries agreed to activate the memorandum of understanding on operating and developing the Jordanian- Egyptian logistic areas. The MoU was signed on the sideline of meeting of the High Egyptian-Jordanian Joint committee in February in Cairo, the statement noted.

 

In a meeting for the Jordanian ambassador to Egypt Ayman Al Odhayla and Secretary- General of the Jordanian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Dana El Zoghbi, both sides highlighted the  importance of focusing on activities that contribute to enhancing food security and achieving integration between Jordan and Egypt in strategic and important food security.

 

 

Jordanian Minister of Industry Youssef Al Shamali said that Jordan pays great care and attention to the food security file in light of the challenges facing the world, especially the repercussions that resulted from the Coronavirus pandemic, the war in Ukraine, high prices and disruption of supply chains globally, the statement continued. 

 

 

 “As per the directives of Jordanian Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh, we are working within a holistic perspective in terms of food security based on partnership with Egypt and many Arab countries,” the Minister said.

 

 

He added that food security is an integrated axis that brings together Jordan, the UAE and Egypt, as well as the vision of economic modernization for the Kingdom of Jordan for the next ten years.

 

 

In early June 2022, a Jordanian-Egyptian-Emirati meeting to set a clear mechanism for implementing a number of projects emanating from the integrated “Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development” that was launched in Abu Dhabi.

 

 

Late May, Egypt, Jordan and the UAE signed the “Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development,” as per which the Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company PJSC (ADQ) will allocate an investment fund of $10 billion.

 

 

"We rely a lot on the initiative to contribute to promoting investment and increasing trade exchange between the countries of Jordan, the UAE and Egypt, which will contribute to providing job opportunities and achieving the aspired economic growth,” said Shamali in a cabinet meeting.

 

 

The three-way partnership focuses on strategic goals which include advancing industries capable of holding competitions and attaining sustainable development, according to the editorial.

 

 

Jordan is working with the United Arab of Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Iraq to build foundations of political and economic cooperation, said Jordanian monarch King Abdullah II in a meeting with a number of former prime ministers at the Al-Husseiniya Palace in Amman, on Sunday.
