Egypt's agricultural exports record 3.5M tons in less than 6 months

CAIRO – 12 June 2022: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al Sayed al-Qusair stated Sunday that the size of Egyptian agricultural exports between January 1 and June 11 has hit 3.5 million tons.

 

The top crops in order are citrus (1,486,344 tons); potato (746,960 tons); onion (152,056 tons); green beans (70,472); sweet potato (38,635 tons); tomato (30,878 tons); grapes (27,380 tons); strawberry (19,425 tons); garlic (17,296); and watermelon (5,341 tons).   

 

he Food Export Council said exports of the Egyptian food industry increased by 3 percent in the first quarter of 2022, recording $1.412 billion against $1.368 billion in the corresponding period in 2021.

 

In a monthly report issued on Wednesday, the council pointed out that Arab countries topped the list of international groups importing food industry products from Egypt.

 

Exports to the Arab markets amounted to $748 million in the first quarter of 2022, representing 53 percent of the total food exports, according to the report.

 

The European Union came second in the list with a value of $249 million, representing 18 percent of Egypt's total food exports.

 

It was followed by non-Arab African countries with the value of food imported from Egypt amounting to $101 million, representing 7 percent of the total.

 

The value of food exports to the US stood at $88 million, representing 6 percent of Egypt's total exports.

 

The rest of the international groups recorded $226 million worth of food imports from Egypt during the same period, representing 16 percent of the total Egyptian food exports during the aforementioned period.
