Egypt's GAFI chief visits Qatar to discuss potential projects

CAIRO – 7 June 2022: Chairman of the General Authority for Free Zones and Investment (GAFI) Mohamed Abdel Wahab held a series of meetings in Qatar Monday to discuss new projects as well as existing ones.

 

Abdel Wahab presented to Chairman of Qatar's National Committee on Trade Sheikh Khailifa Bin Gassem al-Thani and members the opportunities available for investment by sector and that amount to 2,600. He also invited them to visit Egypt to better select the fittest.   

 

GAFI chairman also met with CEO of Al Diyar Group Abdallah Bin Hamad al-Attiyah to discuss establishing hospitality enterprises in Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh.   

 

The Qatari company's CEO showcased the recent launching of the first phase of City Gate residential compound eastern Cairo, offering 24,000 units. The other prominent projects of the company in Egypt include New Giza spanning over 1,500 feddans (one feddan equals 4,500 square meters) western Cairo, and St. Regis Hotel having 515 rooms/suites.

 

Another meeting was held with Ramez al-Khayyat, the CEO of El Khayyat Group, which has recently acquired a share in Juhayna Food Industries Company. The CEO expressed interest in the sectors of healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and retail.   

 

On the other hand, Azdan Holding Group mulls investing in the sectors of hospitality, and banking services. Al Ferdan Group wants to enter the sectors of jewellery, real estate development, hospitality, healthcare, automotives, maritime and financial services.

 

Qatar Cool targets to establish a cooling plant in the New Administrative Capital, while Just Real Estate studies to launch a company for gas export and electricity production, and another for waste recycling. Further, Prosperous Alliance is interested in the sectors of logistics, seaports, and food industries, as indicated by a GAFI press statement.
