CAIRO - 16 March 2022: The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) is working, in coordination with the various state bodies, to implement the political leadership's directives to provide all forms of support to Egyptian women, affirmed Trade and Industry Minister Nevin Gamea.

Gamea, who doubles as the MSMEDA's executive director, said that the move came in a bid to expand women's participation in the economic and social development process in Egypt through encouraging them in implementing small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Gamea said, on the occasion of the Egyptian Women's Day, that the MSMEDA depends on several plans to promote women's role at the economic and societal levels.

The MSMEDA provides various financial services to help women carry out new small-sized enterprises or expand in existing projects, she further said.

From July 2014 and until December 2021, about 45 percent of the total funds allocated to the SMEs were directed to the women.

The total funds reached LE 11.1 billion, said the minister, noting that about 700,000 SMEs have been funded. About 837,000 jobs have also been provided, she added.
