CAIRO – 15 February 2022: Egypt’s unemployment rate recorded 7.4 percent of the total labor force during the fourth quarter of 2021, compared to 7.5 percent in the third quarter of 2021, marking a decrease of 0.1 percent during the previous quarter and an increase of 0.2 percent compared to the same quarter of prior year, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
 
 
CAPMAS clarified in a statement, Tuesday, that the estimate of the size of the labor force recorded 29.653 million individuals, compared to 29.380 million individuals during the previous quarter, marking an increase of 0.9 percent.
 
 
 
The labor force in urban areas reached 13.234 million people, and 16,419 million people in the countryside. At the gender level, the size of the labor force for males reached 24,487 million, and 5,166 million for females.
 
 
 
The reason for this rise is due to the increase in the number of workers by 284 thousand, and the decrease of the unemployed by 11 thousand unemployed, which led to an increase in the labor force by 273 thousand individuals.
 
 
 
The statement pointed out that the number of the unemployed recorded 2,200 million, representing 7.4 percent of the total labor force (1,280 million males, 920 thousand females), compared to 2.211 million unemployed people in the third quarter of 2021, marking a decrease of 11 thousand unemployed, or 0.5 percent, an increase of 34,000 unemployed persons or 1.6 percent, compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
 
 
 
The unemployment rate among males reached 5.2 percent of the total males in the labor force in the current quarter, compared to 5.9 percent in the previous quarter, and 5.1 percent in the same quarter of the previous year.
 
 
 
The unemployment rate among females reached 17.8 percent of the total female labor force in the current quarter, up from 15.3 percent in the previous quarter, and 16.8 percent in the same quarter of the previous year.
 
 
 
The urban unemployment rate reached 11 percent of the total urban labor force, compared to 11.4 percent in the third quarter of 2021, and the same quarter of the previous year.
 
 
 
The unemployment rate in the countryside reached 4.5 percent of the total work force in the countryside, compared to 4.4 percent in the third quarter of 2021, and 4 percent in the same quarter of the previous year.
