CAIRO – 6 February 2022: The government targets raising the agricultural GDP by 11 percent by mid-2022 so it would record LE821 billion ($51.3 billion) compared to the LE739.6 billion ($46.2 billion) achieved in FY2022/2021.

The figure accomplished in the last fiscal year is still higher than that worth LE673 billion ($42 billion) hit in FY2019/2020. Currently, the share of agriculture in the GDP is 15 percent, and 18 percent in exports. The sector also employs 25 percent of workers in the country.

As for the public investments allocated to agriculture in FY2021/2022, their value is LE37.85 billion (five percent of total investments). That is in addition to a target to attract private investments worth LE30.3 billion ($1.9 billion) to the sector.
