CAIRO, Feb 5 (MENA) - The Ministry of Trade and Industry has made strenuous efforts to accommodate Egyptian standard mechanism with the international ones, and adopt new specifications to meet local needs, Trade and Industry Minister Nivine Gamea.

These efforts are intended to roll out high-quality products in the local market, while boosting Egyptian exports to global markets, Gamea added during her visit to the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (ESO) on Saturday.

Highlighting how standard specifications are critical for protecting Egyptian consumers from low-quality foreign products, Gamea said that the ministry spares no effort to provide factory owners with all technical support needed to advance their production system to be commensurate with internationally-recognized standards.

During an expanded meeting with ESO Board Chairman Khaled Soufy after she toured some of the organization's testing labs, energy efficiency units, a training center, and citizen's service unit, Gamea said that the Egyptian standard specification system is currently being reviewed to cope with international developments, whether in terms of imported or exported products.

Such efforts are also aimed at expanding to new markets and encouraging Egyptian producers to comply with standard specifications to promote their products' competitiveness at the local as well as international levels.

The minister also touched upon the organization's ongoing cooperation with standardization bodies all over the world, as well as its partnerships with relevant regional and international bodies to draw up new specifications and technical regulations that are in harmony with international practices, with a view to upgrading production and service industries and facilitating trade exchange.

Gamea also highlighted the organization's role in supporting the government's Covid-19 efforts by developing a special set of specifications and requirements for producing cloth masks approved by the trade and health ministries.

The EOS is the only national body in Egypt undertaking all the relevant activities of preparing and issuing Egyptian standards, as well as other activities concerning quality assurance and conformity assessment for relevant products, testing and industrial measurements aimed at increasing the quality of the Egyptian products.
