Egypt spent LE12.4B on fourth-generation cities in Upper Egypt since 2014

CAIRO - 29 December 2021:  Total spending in fourth-generation cities in Upper Egypt from 2014 to 2021 amounted to LE 12.4 billion, according to Minister of Housing, Assem El-Gazzar.
 
Gazzar explained in a statement, Tuesday, that these investments are distributed between LE 7.3 billion in the housing sector to implement 24,798 housing units, LE 1.2 billion in the services sector to implement 68 projects, LE 2.04 billion in the utilities sector, and LE 1.86 billion in the road sector.
 
He added that the cities of previous generations in Upper Egypt are 8 new cities (New Minya, New Qena, New Beni Suef, New Tiba, New Fayoum, New Sohag, New Assiut, and New Akhmim), and upon completion, it accommodates 4.4 million people.
 
The minister indicated that spending on the cities of previous generations in Upper Egypt from 2014 to 2021 amounted to LE 23.72 billion (LE 7.7 billion in the housing sector - LE 9.02 billion in the utilities sector - LE 3.1 billion in the services sector - LE 3.9 billion in the roads sector), compared to LE 5.5 billion, during the 15 years until 2014, this figure is double what was spent on fourth-generation cities.
 
"Today, Tuesday, the first phase of the cities (New Aswan - Nasser - West Qena), which is one of the fourth-generation cities, was opened," he added.
