CAIRO, Oct 30 (MENA) - Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir on Saturday made an inspection tour of the site of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project connecting the New Administrative Capital with Salam and the 10th of Ramadan cities.

The project is part of the Transport Ministry's efforts to expand its environmentally-friendly green transport network.

The three-phase project includes 11 surface stations between Adli Mansour transition station and the new capital Airport Station, extending over 65.63 km, Wazir said.

Meanwhile, the second phase will extend from the new capital Airport Station to the City of Arts and Culture Station over 3.18 km; and the third phase will extend from the Cathedral of Nativity to the Central Capital station, over 18.5 km, Wazir pointed out.

He added that in pursuance of presidential directives, the project will be expanded to serve the large mass of population in the 10th of Ramadan city in a fourth phase that will extend from the City of Knowledge Station to the 10th of Ramadan Station.

In total, the route will extend for 103.3 km over 19 stations, Wazir said.

The project is expected to ensure speedy transportation between Cairo and the new cities of Obour, Mostakbal, Shorouk, New Heliopolis, Badr, Industrial Zone, the 10th of Ramadan, and the new capital, the minister noted.

Construction and finishing works in the first two phases are 95 per cent complete.
