Egypt’s chemical exports up 37% in 5 months

CAIRO – 9 July 2017: Egypt’s chemical exports increased by 37 percent to $1.7 billion in the first five months of 2017 compared to $1.2 billion year-on-year, according to the monthly report released by the Chemicals & Fertilizers Export Council (CEC).

Plastic and rubber exports rose 19 percent to reach $545 million by the end of May compared to $460 million in the same period of the previous year.

In the same five months, fertilizers and paper products’ exports hiked 67 percent and 13 percent to $246 million and $214 million respectively.

Organic chemicals exports surged 362 percent to $151 million, while non-organic chemicals inched up six percent to $103 million.

Moreover, Egypt recorded a 74% hike in the detergents’ exports to reach $141 million and a five percent increase in the glass products reaching 64 million by the end of May.

The report showed that Turkey came on top of the countries exporting chemicals and fertilizers (34%), followed by Spain (12%)

Methanex Egypt ranked first among the exporting companies, followed by P&G Egypt and Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemicals Company.
