LONDON - 19 August 2021: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has suspended Afghanistan's access to its resources due to a lack of clarity over the recognition of its government since the Taliban seized control of Kabul, the Cowra Guardian reported.
"As is always the case, the IMF is guided by the views of the international community," a spokesperson for the lender said in a statement Wednesday.
"There is currently a lack of clarity within the international community regarding recognition of a government in Afghanistan, as a consequence of which the country cannot access SDRs or other IMF resources," the spokesperson pointed out.
