Agriculture min., UN resident coordinator discuss fostering cooperation

CAIRO – 16 July 2021: Minister of Agriculture and land Reclamation Al Sayed al Quseir discussed on Thursday with UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt Elena Panova means of fostering cooperation in various agricultural domains.

During their meeting, the minister stressed the importance of shoring up the agriculture sector to produce sufficient, safe and nutritious food as well as increase the national income.

He said that Egypt’s 2030 agriculture strategy includes providing citizens with healthy, secure and sustainable food supplies, pointing out to the development witnessed in the agriculture sector nationwide in the past period and efforts exerted by the state to attain food security.

Quseir also underlined the challenges facing the sector topped by water scarcity, desertification and climate change, noting that the government is working to address these problems via developing irrigation systems, building new water desalination plants and expanding national agricultural projects.

Meanwhile, Panova said that the UN is working on a new strategy that can be used to support the Egyptian state, noting that the UN is contributing to developing 120 Egyptian villages within the presidential initiative Decent Life
