Egyptian Businessmen Association prepares list of companies eying participation in Libya's reconstruction

CAIRO – 23 May 2021: The Egyptian Businessmen Association (EBA) formed a committee to prepare a list of companies that want to take part in reconstruction opportunities in Libya as the association plans to send a delegation to the neighboring country soon to coordinate partnerships.

Member of the EBA's Constructions and Building Committee Walid al-Sewedy told Youm7 that the association is backing the state's orientation to participate in the reconstruction of regional countries.

The businessman noted that Egyptian companies operating in constructions, building material, and engineering consulting have accumulated notable experience over the past years as a result of carrying out mega national projects across the country such as building new cities, housing projects of various categories, and roads.

Member in the same committee Ahmed Hossam agreed with the same viewpoint adding that entering the Libyan market under the auspices of the Egyptian government dispels fear of different risks, including the security ones.

On April 20, Egypt’s Prime Minster Moustafa Madbouly and Head of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, signed 11 MoUs to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various field.

During his visit to Tripoli, Egypt’s PM met with Dabaiba and discussed boosting relations between the two countries along with preserving stability and security in Libya.

Madbouly also noted that one of the signed MoUs was related to the return of Egyptian workers to Libya to ‘contribute along with Libyans in reconstructing and developing the country.’

Madbouly stressed during the conference that Egypt supports all measures and steps being taken by the Libyan government to achieve stability for the Libyan people.

He underlined that the signing of cooperation MoUs between Egypt and Libya in health, electricity, manpower and industry fields reflects the strong ties binding the two countries.

During the talks, the two sides agreed on implementing a number of major projects in the electricity, energy, communications and information technology and infrastructure domains.

Madbouli led a delegation of 11 ministers alongside the head of the Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).

The 11 ministers include the ministers of electricity, petroleum, manpower, education, international cooperation, health, housing, transport, aviation, and trade.
