849 projects worth LE2.7B completed in Egypt's Daqahlia within Citizen Investment Plan

CAIRO - 23 May 2021: The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a report on what was achieved within the Citizen Investment Plan in Daqahlia in FY2018/2019 and FY2019/2020 showcasing the accomplishments' alignment with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, indicated that 849 development projects worth LE 2.7 billion were completed in Dakahlia Governorate. Those are concentrated in 7 sectors, that are education, health, housing, electricity, transportation, irrigation, and local development.

 

The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development stated that concerning the state’s efforts to achieve the second goal of the sustainable development goals: “Eliminate hunger, provide food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture,” 36 projects in the water resources and irrigation sector have been completed at LE 343.4 million.

 

These projects include the construction of the new Faraskour station (to serve 2000 feddans), the replacement and renewal of the covered drainage networks in the Kafr Bani Salem area, and the construction of an emergency machine at the end of the Lower Umm Nawar Canal of the Upper Cerwo Drainage.

 

The ministry's report referred to the third goal of the sustainable development goals “Ensuring a healthy life and promoting well-being for all at all ages,” in which 5 projects were completed, for LE 22.2 million, which resulted in the establishment, replacement, and renewal of health units and family medicine in the villages of (Mit Abu Al-Harith, Abu Nour Al-Din, Mit Abu Al-Hussein, MitGhorab, Al-Malha).

 

As for the fourth goal, "Ensuring a quality education that is equitable and inclusive of all, and enhances life-long learning opportunities for all," the report added that 111 projects in the pre-university education sector have been completed, for LE 937.8 million, resulting in the creation, replacement, and expansion of 1,876 classrooms in all educational levels.

 

The comprehensive survey of local community characteristics, issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, indicates an increase in the percentage of villages in which a governmental primary and preparatory school is available from 84.1 percent in 2015 to 96.2 percent in 2020, as well as an increase in the percentage of villages with a governmental preparatory school from 82 percent in 2015, to 86.8 percent in 2020.

 

Within the framework of achieving the sixth goal: “Ensure the availability of drinking water and sanitation for all and manage it sustainably”, 13 drinking water and sanitation projects have been implemented at LE 535 million, including the urtlafirtlation water plant in the village of Al-Shawami (capacity 5000 m3 / day) And the Meit Abbad water station (capacity 5000 m3 / day), the Tama Al Amdid water station (capacity 4000 m3 / day), the children of Nasser wastewater treatment plant, and the sewage treatment plant in Noor Al Hummus Tower (capacity 34,000 m3 / day).

 

Concerning the progress made in achieving the seventh goal: “Ensure universal access to modern, regular and sustainable energy services at an affordable cost,” 13 projects in the electricity and renewable energy sector have been implemented, for LE 81 million, including the expansion of the Mit Ghamr spinning transformer station (added capacity). 25 MVA), and the replacement of the Gulingil transformer station (added capacity 80 MVA).

 

Sixty-four projects within the local development programs (electricity and lighting) were also completed, for LE 15.3 million, which resulted in the installation of 565 lighting poles, lighting 39 km of roads, providing 17.7 000 lighting equipment and tools, and 4 electric cars (towers).

 

Concerning the ninth goal of the sustainable development goals: “Establishing resilient infrastructure, stimulating sustainable industrialization inclusive of all, and encouraging innovation," the doubling of the Mansoura / Tanah / Dikernes road with a length of 16 km has been completed.

 

Moreover, the  Kfour al-Ghab road has been paved and expanded across the Sindila / Mansheya sea, in addition to the Asnit Bridge as well as the completion of the implementation of 405 projects within the local development programs (paving roads) at LE 287.3 million, which resulted in the paving and upgrading of the efficiency of internal roads and streets with a length of 204.8 km.

 

In the same context, and concerning the 11th goal, "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable," the report indicated that the construction of six towers was completed as part of a project to construct 11 residential towers in Mansoura, as part of the efforts to develop slums.

 

The report pointed out that out of 113 projects within the local development programs (security, traffic, and firefighting, supporting the needs of local units) at LE 115 million, they resulted in the completion of the firefighting system in the Gamasa unit and the al-Manzalah firefighting unit, and the establishment and development of three traffic units in BaniUbaid, Aja, and al-Sinbalawin, in addition to the establishment of the development of three technology centers and nine service complexes and government interests.

 

The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development also indicated that concerning the 13th goal, "taking urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts, 84 projects within the local development programs (improving the environment) have been completed at LE 120.4 million.
