CAIRO - 23 March 2021: New and Renewable Energy Authority prepared Atlas Map of Egypt including the brightest places in the sun and the fastest winds, which are suitable for establishing solar and wind stations to generate electricity with the highest efficiency throughout the year.


Spokesperson of Electricity Ministry Ayman Hamza clarified early Tuesday that the Atlas indicates that desert areas extending over 7,673 kilometers are suitable for the establishment of wind farms, which can boost the amount of renewable energy produced to 90,000 megawatts.


Egypt Today reviews all the revealed information in the map and places that are suitable for establishing solar and wind stations to generate electricity with the highest efficiency throughout the year, as follows:

 

1- The total area that can be utilized for constructing solar and wind stations to generate electricity in Egypt is 7,673 km.

 

2- The total capacity that will be generated on an area of ​​7,673 km is 90 thousand megawatts.

 

3- Places suitable for establishing wind stations to generate electricity include:


- The Gulf of Suez area, on an area of ​​1,220 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 3,550 megawatts.

- East Nile region, on an area of ​​841 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 5,800 megawatts.

- West Nile region, on an area of ​​3,636 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 23, 350 megawatts.

 

4- Areas suitable for establishing solar stations to generate electricity in Egypt include:


- East Nile region, on an area of ​​12,090 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 24,900 megawatts.

- West Nile region, on an area of ​​606 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 17,400 megawatts.

- Benban Plant in Aswan governorate, on an area of ​​37 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 1,800 megawatts.

- Kom Ombo, on an area of ​​7 square kilometers, with a total capacity of 260 megawatts.
