CAIRO - 22 February 2020: The Fourth Cairo Conference of Chief Justices of Supreme Courts in Africa kicked off on Saturday. The convention is organized by the Supreme Constitutional Court under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

The conference, which will conclude on February 25, discusses mechanisms of legal interpretation adopted across Africa, combating terrorism from a constitutional perspective, factors of transparancy, integrity, and anti-corruption, upgrading the professional capacity of the judiciary, and coping with information technology development and digitalization to maintain the rule of law.

The conference also tackles the criminalization of certain practices on social media, social rights, sustainable development, electoral fairness and the role of the judiciary in the process in light of different views on the judicial supervision of elections as well as the protection of environment and urban life.

The attendees represent 35 countries and include 100 judges in addition to the ambassadors of invited countries, and international experts.

The opening was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and a number of ministers, including Justice Minister Omar Marwan and State Minister of Military Production Mohamed al-Assar.
