CAIRO - 14 June 2022: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati said the Ministry has implemented projects for the development of canals, protection of Nile River coasts as well as operation of underground wells with the use of solar energy in 20 governorates at a total value of EGP 13.3 billion.


These remarks were made by the minister during his meeting with Ministry Undersecretary Ragab Abdel Azim and Minister's Assistant for Operation of Major Projects Mohamed Omar Makram to review the progress achieved in underway water projects which are carried out as part of the presidential "Decent Life" initiative.

As many as 1,152 canals have been rehabilitated over an area of 2,274 kilometers in the governorates covered by the initiative, he said, adding that the total area of rehabilitation reached to 4,017 kilometers.

Abdel Aati added that the ministry has carried out two major facilities to counter flood risks in Minya and Aswan, adding that similar facilities will be established in Giza in addition to the operation of eight underground wells which are run by solar energy in Farafra, El Wadi El Gadid governorate.

The minister noted that 105 plots of lands have been allocated for the various irrigation projects in the governorates of Sohag, Menufiya, Minya, Damietta, Aswan, Luxor, Beheira, Daqahliya and Kafr El Sheikh
