CAIRO - 4 April 2022: British Ambassador in Cairo Gareth Bayley on Saturday described Egypt as a "major power" in renewable energy production. We will invest in these capabilities in Egypt, Bayley said in a televised interview.

"Egypt has great potential in the field of renewable energy, including solar and wind energy, with the possibility of producing green hydrogen," the ambassador said.

A British trade delegation will visit Egypt within a week to mull ways to benefit from renewable energy and green finance, he added.

Egypt has turned into a modern country with a kind of dynamic energy and great development in infrastructure and roads, Bayley said.

The British ambassador in Cairo also hailed Egypt's tourist and archaeological treasures in Luxor, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Rams Road and Siwa Oasis.

It is necessary to rethink about the tourism potential in Egypt, and to think about the number of tourists arriving in the country annually, Gareth Bayley said.

On the "Decent Life" presidential initiative, Bayley praised the Egyptian government for efforts that aim to change the reality of people.

On the Ethiopian dam, the ambassador said the UK recognizes that the Nile River represents the artery of life for the Egyptians, despite potential in desalination plants.

The British government fully understands the importance of the Nile River to Egypt, he added.

The UK encourages Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, as well as the African Union to reach an agreement, Bayley concluded.
