Number of daily vaccinated citizens varies between 1,000 to 2,000 people: Egypt’s Health Min. adviser

CAIRO - 15 March 2021: The number of daily vaccinated citizens with COVID-19 vaccine varies between 1,000 to 2,000 people, according to Noha Assem, adviser to the Egypt’s Minister of Health Hala Zayed.

She noted that these numbers expected to increase during the coming period when people feel more confident towards vaccines.

She added that the ministry didn't expect that hike in the infections number during the second wave of the virus; however, the only way to control this increase is to commit to the precautionary measures  

Assem indicated that no side effects were detected regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine in Egypt, similar to what happened in other countries of the world.

The Health Ministry said in a Sunday statement that 644 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 190,924.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 44 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 11,300.

As many as 431 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 147,234 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign in January, starting with the medical teams at quarantine hospitals, for being on top of priority groups in terms of vaccination.

The ministry then launched a website in order for citizens over 18 years old to register to receive the vaccine. The website is available in Arabic and English.

The campaign already started to vaccinate the elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases.

Johns Hopkins University on March 15, announced that the total number of coronavirus cases reached 119.848.281 million around the world. The fatalities of the pandemic reached 2.653.641 million cases.
