Egyptian-Russian delegation visits Egypt’s Dabaa, hails project as ‘safe nuclear plant’

CAIRO – 4 March 2021: An Egyptian-Russian delegation hailed the Dabaa nuclear power plant project as “one of the safest nuclear plants in the world”, during its visit to the plant on Thursday.

The delegation from the Nuclear Power Plants Authority visited the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, headed by Eng. Muhammad Ramadan, the Authority’s Vice President for Operation and Maintenance, and Engineer Muhammad Dewidar, Director of the Dabaa Nuclear Plant Construction Project, with a Russian delegation from the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation “Rosatom,” headed by Gennady Sakharov among other legal experts, contractors.

 

The delegation conducted a field visit to the plant’s site aiming to stand on the developments in work progress in the project.

 

Dr. Gregory Sosnin, director of the Egyptian Dabaa nuclear project, said, "During the visit, the progress of works at the construction site at Dabaa was inspected and a meeting was held.”

 

He also indicated in this regard, "The technology of the VVER-1200 nuclear reactors selected for the Egyptian nuclear plant makes me confidently assure that the Dabaa nuclear plant is one of the safest and technologically-advanced nuclear plants not only in the African continent, but also in the world.

 

El Dabaa plant will become the first nuclear plant to operate in the African continent using the advanced third generation reactors, and it will contribute significantly to reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere.  

 

The members of the Egyptian-Russian delegation also inspected the residential assembly of the Russian experts working in the project’s site, and the attached facilities and service buildings were inspected to provide the subsistence requirements for Russian experts and project workers.

 

At the conclusion of the tour, the delegation visited the site of the meteorological tower, and the dock at El Dabaa site, which is still under construction by the owner and is planned to serve in transporting heavy equipment to the station.
