2nd Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development kicks off virtually

CAIRO - 1 March 2021: The second edition of Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development kicked off Monday virtually. The forum is is organized by Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacebuilding and Peacekeeping. 
 
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry delivered the opening speech of the event taking place on March 1-5 under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi. 
 
Afterwards, the presidents of Egypt, Rwanda, South Sudan, Gabon, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and Burundi as well as the United Nations secretary-general and the the chairperson of African Union Commission (AUC) are delivering speeches in a session titled “Post COVID-19 Recovery: Strengthening Sustainable Peace and Development in Africa.” 
 
Two sessions are also held later on Monday on recovery and rebuilding in the aftermath of COVID-19, and on combating terrorism in time of pandemic.
